"Revolution" peaked at number 12 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the US and topped the singles charts in Australia and New Zealand. "Revolution" received praise from music critics, mainly for the intensity of the performance and the heavily distorted guitar sound. Despite Lennon's anti-war sentiments, he had not yet become anti-establishment and expressed in "Revolution" that he wanted to "see the plan" of those who advocated the overthrow of the system.
