Las instalaciones del casino Royale, ubicadas en la avenida San Jerónimo en Monterrey, fueron ayer el blanco de un ataque inusitado cometido por un comando armado con armas largas y granadas de fragmentación, que generó un incendio y causó la muerte de 53 personas, así como un sinfin de heridos. Las autoridades suspendieron las labores de rescate de las personas que quedaron atrapadas, debido a la nula visibilidad, además por el temor de que el edificio colapsara, por lo que las labores de búsqueda, se reanudarán esta mañana, por lo que el número de fallecidos podría aumentar. El ataque ocurrió poco después de las 15:00 horas en el casino denominado Royale Casino, ubicado en el cruce de las avenidas San Jerónimo y Gonzalitos, cuando el comando armado irrumpió en la parte del lugar del bingo, donde amagó al personal de seguridad. Los sicarios de manera inmediata accionaron sus armas largas al tiempo que con palabras fuertes exigían a los clientes y el personal del casino que se tiraran al piso, mientras realizaban las detonaciones de arma de fuego. En primera instancia todo era incierto para las personas que estaban en el piso en el área del bingo, ya que después de los balazos escuchados en el interior del casino, los pistoleros arrojaron por lo menos tres granadas de fragmentación. Tras el ataque violento perpetrado por los delincuentes hacía los clientes y empleados del local, se escucharon las explosiones de las granadas, las cuales a su vez ocasionaron el incendio en el interior del lugar, además de que varios de los vitrales fueron quebrados debido a las esquirlas. Luego del incendio del casino Royale, los maleantes salieron corriendo del lugar, al tiempo que afuera eran esperados por otros delincuentes que estaban a bordo de varios vehículos, sin precisar hasta el momento de que tipo. Algunas personas salieron corriendo del lugar con la intención de ponerse a salvo, mientras que los encargados de seguridad del lugar, pedían la ayuda necesaria a los bomberos, socorristas de las cruces Verde Monterrey, Roja Metropolitana, quienes acudieron de manera inmediata. Tanto clientes como personal del lugar, salieron corriendo de las instalaciones con la firme intención de ponerse a salvo y no ser presa del intenso humo que se dejó sentir tras el incendio que fue provocado por un grupo de sicarios. Sobre la avenida San Jerónimo personal de la Cruz Verde y Roja atendieron a varias personas con síntomas de intoxicación, así como otros que se encontraban sobre el estacionamiento del lugar, los cuales fueron llevados a los distintos hospitales de la localidad. Mientras que personal de Protección Civil de Monterrey, en coordinación con bomberos y socorristas, atendieron a varias personas que se encontraban en uno de los pisos y salieron por el área del estacionamiento. Por desgracia tres de ellos, al momento de ser atendidos perecieron, siendo llevados al estacionamiento ubicado al oriente del establecimiento. Por momentos los apagafuegos controlaron las llamas, pero debido al intenso calor acumulado en el interior del inmueble, aunado a que tuvieron que derribar algunos metros de concreto con retroexcavadoras, pudieron seguir apagando el fuego. Debido al intenso fuego y la probabilidad de que hubiera personas atrapadas, se pidió el apoyo de elementos de Protección Civil de Guadalupe y San Pedro, los cuales se coordinaron para coadyuvar a las labores de remoción. Por la parte delantera del casino Royale, los bomberos con la ayuda de las máquinas y escaleras, penetraban para poder sofocar el fuego, por lo que tuvieron que derribar y quebrar los vidrios y así iniciar las labores de rescate. Elementos del Ejército Mexicano, policías de la Federal, agentes de la Policía Ministerial, estatales y de la regia, se avocaron a acordonar el área, mientras que agentes de la Secretaría de Vialidad y Tránsito, cerraron la vialidad, desde la avenida Fleteros hacía la calle San Jerónimo, así como la entrada de Gonzalitos y Constitución al poniente.
