Nicky Santoro is a fictional character portrayed by actor Joe Pesci in the 1995 movie "Casino", directed by Martin Scorsese. Nicky is based on real-life mobster Anthony Spilotro, who was a high-ranking member of the Chicago Outfit and was sent to Las Vegas in the 1970s to oversee the Mafia's illegal skimming operation at the Tangiers Casino. In the movie, Nicky is depicted as a violent and ruthless enforcer who is sent to Las Vegas to keep an eye on the operations at the Tangiers Casino. He is fiercely loyal to his childhood friend and boss, Sam "Ace" Rothstein (played by Robert De Niro), but also has a short temper and a propensity for violence, which often lands him in trouble with the law. As the movie progresses, Nicky becomes increasingly reckless and violent, which ultimately leads to his downfall.
