Aquel incendio estuvo rodeado de mucho misterio y las distintas versiones de su origen no esperaron para circular entre los habitantes. La más difundida fue la de que una chica de nombre Linda salió de su casa desobedeciendo a sus padres para acudir al gran baile de año nuevo. Ahí conoció a un hombre muy guapo que la atrajo inmediatamente. Linda acepta bailar con este galán y cuando están ya en la pista ella nota en él un olor desagradable como a azufre, el hombre la abraza más fuerte y ella empieza a sentir que la mano del hombre le quema la espalda, sin poderse mover ella solo logra darse cuenta de que las piernas del galán son ahora una pata de cabra y una de gallo, Linda grita desesperada y el hombre desaparece dejando fuego y llamas detrás de sí, mismas que terminan por incendiar el lugar entero.
